Dolls I've entered into contests
These dolls are ones I've entered into contests that are now closed/done, or missing in action. Also contests I was eliminated from, or dropped out of.

Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Portrait base: My own Contest at: Miss Doll International I dropped out of Miss Doll International after the first round, because I didn't really find it fun (a lot of drama on the tagboard, and I was part of it, and it just made me lose my enthusiasm for the whole thing). I did like my entry, though. I do love her dress very, very much. There are some problems with it, but considering I passed the first round in top ten, I guess it wasn't too bad even so.
Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Portrait base: Silindor Contest at: Miss Fashion Runway I also dropped out of Miss Fashion Runway after the first round. I pouted a bit at not winning any awards for this entry, because I do think she's amazing, but the real reason I dropped out was simply because round 2 was Alice in Wonderland, and I just really don't care for that, and... yeah. No point spending a lot of time and effort on a doll with a theme you really don't care for, you know? I do love her purpleness, and I think she expresses who she is quite well, though. |

Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Portrait base: Silindor Contest at: Miss Doll Europe Because I had so much fun with MDE last year, I just had to enter again. So, here's Simone Solberg, one of the entrants from Denmark. Hopefully she'll win the poll and go on to the second round. She's wearing a coat based on a design by Miss Sixty, boots by Gucci and the portrait top is by Marc Jacobs. She didn't do as well as Dolores in the first round, but was still in the upper half at least. For the pirate lingerie round, I decided I didn't want to make yet another corset, which was a bit of a challenge. How to convey a sense of pirate in modern lingerie? In the end, I think I did pretty well, though. I love the hat, like seriously. And I picked purple for her outfit for two reasons: 1) I wanted to use a cheerful colour for her outfit, and 2) Purple is the colour of the pirate party, and I wanted to give them a nod somehow. She got into round 3 as number 10 of 10 finalists. The final round, we were supposed to dress the contestants in two outfits: the first one was a modest gown - minimal cleavage, no high slits, and covered shoulders and midriff. They should also be wearing a crown/tiara. I'm really happy with how she came out - I love that gown, and the bolero jacket works well with it. The second outfit was to be a military or police uniform (preferably a dress uniform) of the country in question, so Denmark. I spent a lot of time researching that. Not quite so happy with it, but it works. I like their interaction, while minimal. I made a face edit of my face edit, just to make sure they'd look at eachother. Thanks to a lot of votes in the public poll, I surged from 10th to 2nd - that's right, I was first runner-up for the title of Miss Doll Europe 2010! I was totally shocked at that, and oh so very happy. ^_^ ![]()

Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Portrait base: BonePink Contest at: Miss Doll Europe So, even as I finished Simone, I was thinking it might be cool to make another entry as well. I only really got going about five hours before the deadline, however. Still, here's Dolores Salinas y Castillo. I do love how her hair came out in the portrait, and the coat is cute. She ended up in top ten of the first round, so apparently I must've done something right. Round 2 was lingerie round, with a twist: pirates. So, I went with a corset because that just screams pirate to me. Still, I didn't want to get too stuck in the traditional pirate look (it's supposed to be modern lingerie, not sexy pirate costume, after all), so I decided to go with white and pink instead of black and red, and I'm really happy with that decision. Overall, I'm quite happy with her. I love the boots. She didn't end up going into the finals, which was a bit sad, especially considering she was in top ten for the first round, but she ended up #13 total, and I'm quite happy with that. ![]()

Base: Indexed Colors Contest at: Battle Royale This here is Eugene Sinclair, 17 years old and a student at Eton College in England. Now, for some basic explanation: In Battle Royale, a school class is kidnapped and forced to battle to the death, until there's only one left. In the pageant version, this is made into a world-wide contest, with students from different schools, from different countries coming together to battle it out. They're each given a different weapon (or utility) and sent off. Some get some actually useful weapons, like guns or swords. Others get things like tracking devices or a bullet-proof vest, which can be quite useful. And then there are the ones that get things like a can lid or a paper fan. Yeah. Anyway, now that I'm done ranting, here's Eugene Sinclair. 17 years old, from Eton College, England. I picked the weapon first, and then I was like "hmm, I wonder what kind of character I should make for this guy?", and then I thought that it would be really amusing to make an Eton boy who finds himself not insanely privileged for once, but stuck with what he initially sees as a completely useless object. Which is probably why he looks so pissed. Yeah, I made a complete face edit for him, because I didn't want to use the manga-ish look of the original base. I'm quite proud of how he turned out - I researched Eton uniform to DEATH in order to make him, haha.
Base: My own Contest at: Battle Royale And this is Su Chang James, 15 years old boy from Raffles Institute in Singapore. Once again, I researched the uniform to death because I wanted to do it as accurately as possible. This of course means a bit less creativity, but, hey. I had fun with it. I made this doll baseless. It would've been cool to continue, but I dropped out after the first round, because I got distracted and couldn't find any inspiration. Unfortunately, because it was fun. ...this description is so much shorter, but myeh.

Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Contest at: The Steampunk Pageant After I entered Mordecai, I decided I wanted to enter a second character too (since one was allowed to make two entries, and I really enjoyed experimenting with steampunk style), and thus I made Clementine. She's a biorobotic prosthetist, which is fancyspeak for maker of artificial limbs. You know, the kind that half of the steampunk dolls out there have. Her underwear is a bit more elaborate than Mordecai's, and I think it kind of makes her look like a pirate, hehe. But she's not. I'm most happy with her face edit. And the fact that I made her black, because I think it really works (it also makes her stand out among all the pasty white victorian dolls). Also the corset. And the bloomers. And... well, I'm mostly just happy with all of her, hehe. For round 2, she's dressed in her work clothes, because we were to doll our characters engaged in their favourite pastimes, and Clementine does love her job. I put thought into all of her design, but I can't be bothered explaining it all just now. Later. And I dropped out before round 3, which was dumb, because I was doing well, and it was fun. Still, there you have it.

Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Contest at: The Steampunk Pageant Steampunk is cool. Like, seriously cool. Thus, when I heard about The Steampunk Pageant, I just knew I had to enter. For the first round, we were to doll our characters in their underwear. Now, the problem here is that steampunk is basically victorian fashion with random strange/cool technological accessories, and when you strip down to your underwear, most of that would be lost. So, I went with crazy hair and strong colours (which isn't very typical steampunk, but I like colours) and I think I ended up with something that looks pretty steampunk. ^_^ His middle initial stands for Virgil, and I totally got the "consulting detective" from Sherlock Holmes, hehe. I also got his favourite pastime - playing the violin - from Sherlock Holmes. I had a great deal of fun working out a design for a steampunk violin and amplifier. I based the design of the latter on the designs of old-fashioned gramophones. And his hair is so cool, isn't it? And dropped out with Mordy too. Sigh.

Fullbody base: Doll on the Hill Factory Portrait base: Celeblaith Contest at: Miss Doll Europe Morrigan Malone, my first entry for Miss Doll Europe 2009. The lingerie is based on Guinness bottle design. (More specifically, this is the bottle I used for reference.) She passed the first round as contestant #14! Her party outfit is supposed to look something like the sun. And then she passed the second round as contestant #7, which surprised me a bit, because while I of course hoped she would make it through, I didn't think she'd be that high. Hooray! Then there's her outfit for the last round, where we were to doll our girls in formal, simple dresses that were all about the shape and structure, and themselves as their own dates in formal menswear. I'm happy with how it came out. In the end, I placed #8, which did disappoint me slightly, but I'm okay with it, because making it to the finals was really more than I originally thought I would. ![]()

| |
Fullbody base: Wayuki Portrait base: Rainy Day Crap Box Contest at: Miss Doll Europe Alina Linden, my second entry for Miss Doll Europe 2009. Lingerie based on this beer design. I didn't think she'd make it to the second round, but she managed to scrape by, and got place #28 and a spot in the second round. Whoo! I didn't have any real idea for what to do with her party outfit, so I just went with pink. She didn't make it to the final round (no surprise there), but at least she got an award for "most improved", and she ended up #20 of 29 contestants in the second round. Which is really more than I was hoping for, so I'm happy. ![]()

Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Contest at: Miss Unique This is Lalita Sparks, my contestant for Miss Unique. I really like how her dress came out. And her hair. It was a cool contest, and I really do regret dropping out of it like I did. |
Base: Bayonet Garden Contest at: Blu's Pen Yet another contest hosted at my sister site, with the goal to doal something somehow pertaining to the periodic table. She was quite specific that it was the actual elements we were to doll, not the "classical" fire, air, water, earth ones... but I figured I could do both, so I ended up with Oxygen and Hydrogen, the Original True Pairing, creating water as they touch.
Base: Silindor Contest at: Miss Doll Myth Freya, the goddess of love from norse mythology and my first entry for Miss Doll Myth. It's been generally agreed that MDM died before the auditions were even closed. Sigh. |
Base: if looks could kill Contest at: Miss Doll Myth Gaia, the goddess of earth from greek mythology, and my second entry for Miss Doll Myth. Too bad it died... |
Base: Doll on the Hill Factory Contest at: Miss Doll Fantasy Who doesn't love fantasy? I for one absolutely adore fantasy, the magical worlds beyond our own. I also like worldbuilding, creating my own little worlds (although I'm not very good at doing anything with them after I've created them) and conlanging (i.e. making my own languages). So, when I saw Miss Doll Fantasy, I knew I had to enter - and thus, Noldara was created. She comes from the hot country of Yelmid, and her outfit is vaguely based on ancient Egyptian clothes. Totally didn't make it past auditions, but as I recall, I ended up somewhere mid-vote, and only like ten people made it, so... not feeling too bad about it.
Base: Apitchou Contest at: Miss Doll Fantasy My second entry for Miss Doll Fantasy is Inilea Sinthe, from a cold country. When I think "cold", I think really cold. Thus, she wears fur and knitwear. Because that's what you wear when it's cold. I had help from Ghostie's fur tutorial when drawing the coat and boots. Didn't make it past auditions with her either, but it was still fun.
| |
Base: Blu's Pen Contest at: Blu's Pen My dear sister site started a base edit contest, so of course I had to enter. I like kimono, so the feet got one of those above it, and tabi socks and sandals. Because that's fun to draw. I ended up in fourth place, and I'm okay with it.

Base: Aoi Island Contest at: Purple Sunrise For a "Doll Your Nationality"-contest. The object was to doll yourself and add in something about your heritage in there, so I dolled myself as a viking. The doll isn't totally accurate, but it's pretty close, as far as I can tell (well, except for the fact that it's more male-ish clothes... urhm. yeah.), and I like it. I also did a silly little thing and wrote "Karin rules" on the sword. In runes. Mwehehehe. |
Base: ilck Contest at: Forgotten World I saw the contest and thought, well... hey, dolling a uniform shouldn't be that hard. So, this is what I came up with. I thought it was kind of cute. ^_^ I didn't win anything, but it was fun anyway. At least I got a participation award!
Base: Yumestudio Contest at: Dots This was a contest where the object was to make a doll using only one colour (you got to use any shade of darkness/lightness of that colour, though), and I picked some purple-pink tone. I think it came out pretty well, though the hair and pants are a bit desaturated... |
Base: Yumestudio Contest at: Te Hawt Pixel I really liked this contest - doll the pokémon! I do love the pokémon games, and I've always thought Jynx was one of the more awesome pokémon in them, so... yes. I choose to doll it. Her. Yesh. |

Message: Hey! Thanks for the comment on my tagboard. I put the dollmaker project on hold for the moment because of school and stuff. There are some major bugs in Internet Explorer and I want to have a better system for people to post their pieces. Until those things are fixed, I don't want to advertise the dollmaker too much, since I know I'll be getting complaints and it would cause problems, so the link is quietly sitting in my news archive. When I have time to fix it (sometime in May), I'll put a more prominent banner on my home page. You're still welcome to add stuff to it if you want though.
